Behind the Science Programs
Explore Science in a New Way
We love science. From our animal residents to the natural settings we all inhabit, science surrounds us and we think it's pretty cool. Plus, in our own backyard, local researchers are using science daily to discover ways to make our lives even better. However, we know this world is often full of complicated concepts and dare we say, jargon? Which is why we launched Behind the Science; a new effort to build our community's enthusiasm for science in a fun and unique way. Through these initiatives, Sunset Zoo will connect with local researchers to strengthen their public outreach and create opportunities for our community to discover their fascinating work.
Science Communication Fellowship
We're building a network of certified researchers working together to connect the community to science and elevate the understanding of science-related work taking place in the region.
Science Communication For K-State Faculty & Researchers
Expanding upon our successful Science Communication Fellowship, Sunset Zoo is working with K-State faculty and researchers to grow the number of trained scientists in the region to effectively connect the public with science in meaningful ways. Learn more about this new opportunity supported by Kansas State University's Center for Engagement and Community Development.
Science On Tap
On the third Wednesday of the month, August through April, we host a monthly gathering at Manhattan's Tallgrass Tap House, featuring public discussion on engaging science topics.
Science Saturdays
Offered on Saturdays in the winter, this family-friendly program offers guests of all ages hands-on activities to discover the fascinating world of science.
